Falling for newness as if it were a virtue. The neomaniac upgrades for the sake of upgrading.
New tools, new methodologies, new frameworks feel like progress. They're sometimes progress and often fragility. Established things have survived selection; new things haven't. Most «new» fails. The signal isn't the announcement, it's the survival.
Neomania is a stealth tax: upgrade cost, migration cost, lost knowledge, fragility from immature tooling. Often paid voluntarily for status, not for benefit.
Rewriting a working internal tool from React 17 to «the new framework» - months of work to end up with the same feature set and new bug surface.
- 1Defer adoption. Let others find the bugs. The «laggards» often end up with the best stack.
