Plain explanation

Add 1000 random people. The tallest adds maybe 0.3% to total height. The heaviest adds maybe 0.5% to total weight. Averages mean something. The past predicts the future. Sample sizes work the way intuition expects.

Why it matters

Most of statistics, most safety engineering, most school maths - all assume Mediocristan. When the actual domain is Extremistan, this assumption silently breaks everything.

Practical example

Average height of adults. Average sleep hours. Average commute time. All Mediocristan.

1First, classify the domain. Adding observations: does it converge? Mediocristan. Does it explode? Extremistan.
